UM's Junior Colson, MSU's Cal Haladay named to FWAA freshman All-America first team

Three local players have been named to the Football Writers Association of American freshman All-America football team announced Monday.

Michigan linebacker Junior Colson, Michigan State linebacker Cal Haladay and Central Michigan defensive back Donte Kent were named to the FWAA freshman first team.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Colson was fourth on the team with 61 tackles last season. He had a team-high 12 tackles at Penn State. He also had a fumble recovery and three quarterback hurries.

Haladay, 6-1, 235, was tied for the team high with 96 tackles. He also had two interceptions that he returned for touchdowns.

The 5-11, 185-pound Kent had one interception and 14 pass breakups for the Chippewas.
