Michigan gave up a goal late in the second period to New Hampshire but scored two of its own earlier in the period, and the Wolverines went on to a 2-1 hockey victory Saturday at Yost Ice Arena.

Neither team scored before Michael Downing put a shot into the net for Michigan 28 seconds into the second period off an assist from JT Compher. Cutler Martin added a Michigan goal less than two minutes later, assists going to Zach Hyman and Alex Kile.

Matt Willows tallied for New Hampshire at 14:25.

Steve Racine made 31 saves for the Wolverines (1-2-0).

Massachusetts 4, (at) Michigan State 3: Michigan State outshot Massachusetts, 31-28, but couldn't come away with the victory.

Matt Berry had two goals and an assist for the Spartans (1-1-0), scoring at 16:30 of the first period to even the score at 1 and again in the second, his fourth of the season, to make it 2-2.

Michael Ferrantino scored for MSU 52 seconds into the third period to give it the lead before UMass (1-2-0) scored twice more.

Jack Hildebrand made 24 saves for the Spartans.
