Columbus, Ohio — No. 1 Ohio State has suspended defensive back Damon Webb before its game against Northern Illinois for an unspecified violation of athletic department policy.

The school did not say how long Webb would be held out.

The sophomore, from Detroit Cass Tech, is the Buckeyes' third cornerback and nickel back. He has eight tackles for Ohio State (2-0) and figured to play a lot against the Huskies, who rank ninth in the nation in passing yards per game at 374.5.

Webb was ranked the No. 2 player on the Detroit News Blue Chip list in 2014.
