That’s two in a row for Michigan State.
The Spartans’ win streak is actually at 13, but they now also boast back-to-back Big Ten Player of the Week honors, with sophomore forward Nick Ward earning the honor this week, following Miles Bridges last week.
The 6-foot-8 Ward averaged 21.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in a pair of lopsided victories last week — 111-61 over Cleveland State, and 108-52 over Savannah State — to climb to No. 1 in the Associated Press college basketball poll.
Ward went 16-for-17 from the field in the two vicories, and is 32-for-34 in his last four. He has four double-doubles this season, including two last week.
Iowa forward Luka Garza was named the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Week.
Minnesota's Destiny Pitts, a former Detroit Country Day star, was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for women's basketball, after averaging 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games last week. It's her fourth freshman of the week honor this season.
