Michigan No. 1 in USA Today Big Ten Power Rankings

USA Today agrees with The Detroit News: Michigan is the top preseason team in the Big Ten.

The News published its first Big Ten Power Rankings for the 2019 season last week and named Michigan the No. 1 team, followed by Ohio State and Michigan State.

USA Today’s preseason rankings were revealed Wednesday, and the top three were the same.

“Here are the ingredients for a Big Ten championship and College Football Playoff berth: Michigan has a senior quarterback, an updated offense, a motivated and talented defense and games at home against Notre Dame, Michigan State and Ohio State,” says Paul Myerberg of USA Today. “Now it is up to the Wolverines to go out and win their first Big Ten title since 2004.”

Myerberg projects an 11-1 regular-season record for Michigan, with Ohio State at 10-2 and MSU at 9-3.

“The defense seems vintage, quarterback Brian Lewerke is set for a rebound season after being plagued by injury and the offensive line has the bones of a fantastic group,” he says of the Spartans. “But getting both the Wolverines and Buckeyes on the road is a concern for the Spartans.”
