Michigan State punter Mike Sadler was named a recipient of the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award on Thursday. Sadler, who graduated in May, received an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship to pursue his master's degree in public policy.
Sadler, who majored in applied engineering sciences as an undergraduate, has a 3.97 grade-point average and is the first MSU football player to earn Academic All-America honors three times. He made the first team in 2013 and the second team from 2011-12.
He is also a finalist for the Campbell Trophy, awarded to the nation's top scholar-athlete. The winner will be announced on Dec. 9.
