The Michigan State women's basketball team dropped one spot to No. 16 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll released Monday, following a 1-1 week that included a loss to the nation's new No. 2 team.

South Carolina is the new No. 1 team in the country, thanks in part to UConn's loss Stanford last week. UConn is No. 3.

Michigan State (2-1) opened the week at No. 15, but lost 71-63 to then-No. 3 Notre Dame on Wednesday in East Lansing before rebounding with a 64-45 victory over IUPUI on Sunday.

The Spartans sit in the middle of a cluster of three Big Ten teams in the Top 25, sandwiched between No. 15 Nebraska (4-0) and No. 17 Iowa (4-0).

Maryland (4-0) is the highest-ranked Big Ten team at No. 10, while Rutgers (3-0) is No. 21.
