East Lansing — Michigan State added a 16th commitment to the 2015 recruiting class on Tuesday and it went the junior college path to do so.

Defensive back Drake Martinez, who spent a redshirt season at Nebraska in 2013 before transferring to Saddleback (California) College, announced on Twitter that he would be finishing his career at Michigan State.

The brother of former Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez was recruited by Michigan State before ultimately deciding on the Cornhuskers coming out of high school, where he was a 3-star prospect at Laguna Beach High in California.

In 2014 at Saddleback, Martinez had 21 tackles and two pass breakups. He was expected to battle for playing time at safety with the Huskers in 2014 but an illness kept him out of spring practice before he ultimately left the program.

National signing day is Feb. 4 and Michigan State is likely only looking for another player or two to close out the class.
