Detroit News predictions: MSU vs. Oklahoma

The Detroit News

Matt Charboneau: Michigan State will see a much faster pace than it saw in the victory over Virginia, but it's a style that plays into its hands. Oklahoma is a solid defensive team that will focus on slowing Michigan State down, but the Spartans have been outstanding on defense as well, holding the Cavaliers to less than 30 percent shooting. Michigan State 70-60

Rod Beard: The Spartans have turned into Cinderella — and unlikely role for a Tom Izzo team — but are playing some of their best basketball at the right time. Oklahoma has all the pressure, which works for Michigan State. Michigan State 68-60

Bob Wojnowski: The Spartans are peaking in every area except one, and it's their staple — rebounding. Branden Dawson and Matt Costello must play big because rebounds will start the break, and both teams want to run. The Sooners are a bit more reckless and will commit a few more turnovers. Tie your laces tightly for this one. Michigan State 72-71

John Niyo: Transition defense is the key to beating the Sooners, but the Spartans won't mind a fast-paced game, either. And Oklahoma's carelessness — more turnovers than assists in two games last week in Columbus — may be its undoing. Michigan State 73-66
