Analyst: MSU up to No. 6 in 'post-spring' Top 25

The Detroit News

The Michigan State football team is moving up in some people's eyes without having played a game in 2015.

The spring season will do that, according to Dennis Dodd of, who revealed his "post-spring" Top 25 on Tuesday. In it, he has the Spartans checking in at No. 6, up three spots from his pre-spring rankings.

"If the Buckeyes falter at all, the Spartans are ready to win the Big Ten," wrote Dodd, the site's senior college football columnist. "Their only losses in 2014 were to playoff teams (Oregon, Ohio State). Mark Dantonio may have the best draft-eligible quarterback of 2015 (in Connor Cook)."

Ohio State held firm as Dodd's No. 1, followed by TCU. Wisconsin is the third Big Ten team in Dodd's poll, checking in at No. 12 — up nine spots from Dodd's pre-spring rankings.

Michigan State is coming off an 11-2 season, including a Cotton Bowl victory over Baylor (Dodd's No. 5 team in his post-spring rankings), good for a No. 5 final ranking.

Michigan State opens the season Sept. 4 at Western Michigan before playing host to Dodd's No. 3 team, Oregon, on Sept. 12.
