NFL.com's Chase Goodbread thinks the best could be yet to come for Michigan State defensive end Shilique Calhoun.
Goodbread unveiled his list of the best defensive players in college football as part of NFL.com's College Football 24/7 "15 for '15 series" on Tuesday, and Calhoun checks in at No. 10 after deciding to return for his senior season at Michigan State.
That could be bad news for the Spartans' opponents, Goodbread writes.
"Calhoun was among the top underclassmen to strongly consider an early jump to the NFL last year and opt for one more year of college ball instead," he wrote. "He led one of the top defenses in the nation in both tackles for loss (12.5) and sacks (eight), accounting for 109 yards in total losses.
"A team leader and an inspirational presence in the Spartans' lineup, Calhoun is primed for a big season in East Lansing. He's been a second-team All-American twice — in his final college season, this is his time to rise to first-team All-America status."
Calhoun returns to a defense that led the country in fewest rushing yards allowed (88.5 yards per game), and was eighth in total defense (315.8 yards).
Leading Goodbread's list is Ohio State junior defensive end Joey Bosa. Also on the list is Virginia Tech cornerback Kendall Fuller (No. 7), who is the younger brother of Lions receiver Corey Fuller.
