Detroit News predictions: Michigan State vs. Maryland

The Detroit News

Matt Charboneau, Angelique S. Chengelis, John Niyo and Bob Wojnowski of The Detroit News predict the outcome of Saturday's Michigan State-Maryland game.

Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook

Matt Charboneau: Michigan State was stunned when it walked off the field last week with a loss, but it didn’t take long for the Spartans to realize all was not lost. It will be if they find a way to let the Terrapins off the hook, but don’t count on a team with six straight losses and no Big Ten victories coming in and knocking off Michigan State a week before it squares off with Ohio State. Michigan State 45-17

Angelique S. Chengelis: Michigan State is coming off a disappointing loss to Nebraska, and what better than a game against Maryland to snap back and score another victory? This will be an angry Spartans team. Michigan State 31-10

John Niyo: The run game still isn’t providing much explosion. But all teams come to pass against the Terrapins. Connor Cook should have another big day. Michigan State 35-17

Bob Wojnowski: A noon start against a 2-7 opponent following a crushing loss? The Spartans emotional strength will be tested, along with their wobbly secondary. The Terrapins have some talent, and have hung tight in several games. But this explains everything — Maryland is last in the nation with a minus-17 turnover margin. Connor Cook may need to throw 50 times to pull away, but the Spartans will shake the disappointment and get it done. Michigan State 40-24
