So much for objectivity, apparently.
Ohio State plays host to Michigan State on Saturday in a game with massive implications in the Big Ten East Division race. The publisher at the Columbus Dispatch wants his employees to show their support, according to jimromenesko.com, despite impartiality being one of the golden rules of journalism.
According to the Romenesko blog, publisher Brad Harmon sent out an email on Tuesday that read:
“Let’s support our Ohio State Buckeye’s [sic]!
“Wear your OSU gear to work on Friday, November 20th in support of the game with Michigan State on Saturday. If you have appointments with clients then accompany your OSU shirt with business casual attire.
“Let’s have some fun!”
The blog stated it received the tip from a retired journalist who said, “dressing up in the colors of a major institution that we supposedly cover objectively flies in the face of integrity.”
