One thing helping Michigan State in its quest to make the College Football Playoff is the quality of its victories.
Sagarin rates the top victories for each contender and the Spartans have three of the best 15 victories and four of the top 50.
Michigan State’s victory at Ohio State Saturday is ranked second, only behind Oklahoma’s win over Baylor.
Last month’s victory at Michigan ranked seventh and September’s home win over Oregon was 15th. The victory over Air Force in September ranks 48th.
Oklahoma is the only other school with two in the top five and three in the top 15.
Sagarin also has a list of quality losses and Michigan State’s loss at Nebraska ranks sixth, just ahead of Oklahoma’s loss to Texas. Topping that list was Notre Dame’s loss at Clemson.
