ESPN: Turn to MSU’s Valentine when game’s on line
If there’s a basketball player who is more clutch in the country than Michigan State senior Denzel Valentine, ESPN hasn’t seen him.
Valentine topped ESPN’s list of 10 players who should take the last shot when the game’s on the line, which was released Thursday.
“(Valentine) has delivered in big moments for the Spartans all season,” ESPN.com’s Myron Medcalf wrote. “He’s a leader for a program that’s eyeing Tom Izzo’s eighth Big Ten title and eighth Final Four appearance. And per hoop-math.com, he’s connected on 52.4 percent of his jump shots.”
Valentine leads the top-ranked Spartans (11-0) in points (18.6), assists (7.2) and rebounds (8.5), and has come up big in his team’s biggest victories this season, including a triple-double (with 29 points) in a 79-73 victory over Kansas and 25 points in a 71-67 victory over Louisville.
Michigan State is at Northeastern on Saturday.
