MSU defensive lineman Cassius Peat to transfer

East Lansing — Michigan State announced on Wednesday that redshirt freshman defensive lineman Cassius Peat has requested and been granted a release to transfer.

The native of Chandler, Arizona, had not taken part in preseason camp and coach Mark Dantonio said last week he was allowing Peat time to work out academic issues.

“Some of our guys first of all, just because you’re on scholarship doesn’t guarantee you’re in camp, that’s No. 1,” Dantonio said. “No. 2 is some guys got to take care of some academic issues. And the third thing is, you know, sometimes people gotta make transition.

“So right now he’s sort of in flux right now. He’s not been suspended or anything like that. We’ll give him an opportunity to work on his academics and sort of get his stuff in order.”

Peat (6-foot-2, 264 pounds) was the No. 3-ranked player in the state of Arizona as a senior at Corona del Sol High School.
