East Lansing — While Michigan State is making its final push to close out the 2017 recruiting class, it got good news for 2018 on Tuesday night.
Joseph Scates, a four-star receiver from Dayton (Ohio) Dunbar, announced he had committed to Michigan State. The 6-foot-3, 175-pound junior is rated as the No. 25 receiver in the nation according to 247sports.com and chose Michigan State over Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, Pittsburgh and Vanderbilt.
“I just want to take this time to thank god for blessing me with the ability & talent to have a chance at the next level,” Scates posted on Twitter. “I would like to thank all the coaches & schools that have been recruiting me and I’d like to thank the MSU coaching staff for all the time & love they’ve invested in me. … After a long talk with my family and coaches I have decided to further my academic & athletic career and commit to Michigan State University. #GoGreen.”
Scates is the second player to commit to the 2018 class, joining four-star defensive back Xavier Henderson of Pickerington, Ohio, who committed in early September.
Michigan State currently has 18 players committed to the 2017 class with national signing day closing in on Feb. 1.
