East Lansing — Even with spring practice winding down, the Spartans made a late addition to the 2018 recruiting class. On Tuesday, defensive tackle Dashaun Mallory of Bolingbrook (Ill.) High signed a National Letter of Intent.

Mallory (6-3, 310) is ranked the No. 44 defensive tackle in the nation by Rivals.com and is rated the No. 12 overall player in Illinois by 247sports.com. He recorded 12 sacks and 20 tackles for loss during his senior season, forced six fumbles and scored two touchdowns.

“Dashaun comes from a tremendous high school program that has produced a lot of collegiate players,” Dantonio said. “We’ve been extremely interested in him throughout the entire recruiting process. He’s been on campus numerous times, including our camp last summer, and we’ve also watched him play. We’re very excited he’s decided to become a Spartan.

“Dashaun is a big guy who can move and is very instinctive. He gives us immediate depth at defensive tackle. We’re looking forward to his future impact at Michigan State as a student, football player, and individual.”
