Bond revoked for ex-MSU football player Auston Robertson after arrest

Former Michigan State football player Auston Robertson had his bond revoked Thursday, two days after being arrested in Garden City, Kan.

Robertson, who faces two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct in Ingham County after an incident in April 2017 in which he is accused of assaulting a woman in her Meridian Township apartment, is being held in the Finney County Jail in Garden City after his arrest Tuesday on suspicion of aggravated robbery armed with a dangerous weapon; conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery; distribution of marijuana 450 grams – 30 kilograms; and interference with law enforcement.

He is currently being held on a $300,000 cash/surety bond with expectations of being formally charged early next week.

“Our office previously objected to the bond conditions that allowed the defendant to travel out of state,” Ingham County prosecutor Carol A. Siemon said in a statement. “While hindsight is of course 20-20, we believed at the time that continued placement here in Ingham County would allow the court to properly supervise this defendant during the pre-trial phase.

“It is always disconcerting when a criminal defendant fails the conditions of their bond and we believe the courts have now taken the proper action.”

Robertson last summer had his bond modified in order to move to Kansas to attend school and play football at Garden City Community College. He played in 12 games last season, recording 73 tackles and seven sacks for the team that finished 8-4.

Robertson played in seven games as a true freshman at Michigan State in 2016. Coach Mark Dantonio dismissed Robertson from the team in April 2017 when Robertson was charged with sexual assault.

Robertson is still set to go to trial in May on the charges in Meridian Township. How his arrest in Kansas affects that schedule is unclear.
