Weston Bridges ices the game for Michigan State

Bridges gets 9 yards on the following play and finishes the job for Michigan State with a 4-yard run that'll allow Rocky Lombardi to take a couple knees and end the game.

Michigan State defense forces late punt

Tayon Fleet-Davis picks up 1 yard with a first-down run. Backup quarterback Tyrrell Pigrome is in for Maryland; he loses a yard on second down then misses his receiver on third down. Michigan State was flagged for unsportsmanlike penalty, however, and that'll give Maryland 15 free yards and a first down.

Fleet-Davis gets 10 yards on first down to move the chains again.

Pigrome misses Taivon Jacobs on first down. Fleet-Davis gets to the outside for a gain of 4 on second down. Pigrome is dropped behind the line by Kenny Willekes for a loss of 8.

Hill's throw on first down is incomplete. McFarland rushes for 3 yards on second down to reach the Spartan 42-yard-line. Hill's throw on third and fourth down fall to the turf and Michigan State will take over at the 42.

Roller coaster of events give Spartans three-score lead

Rocky Lombardi is in at quarterback for the Spartans. 

Lombardi's first pass of the game falls incomplete. Connor Heyward picks up 6 yards with a second-down run.

Lombardi's throw on third down is batted at the line and picked off by Maryland lineman Jahrvis Davenport. Darrell Stewart Jr. chases Davenport down and punches the ball out just before the goal line. Matt Dotson recovers the ball in the end zone for a touchback. 

All things considered, that's a 10-yard gain for the Spartans. Connor Heyward breaks loose on the very next play from scrimmage and goes 80 yards to give Michigan State a three-score lead. Wowza.

Kasim Hill completes a 14-yard pass to Jeshaun Hill to reach the Michigan State 29.

Anthony McFarland rushes up the middle for a gain of 1 on first down. Hill loses the ball on second down and is eventually sacked for a loss of 9 yards. Hill throws an incomplete pass on third down.

Wade Lees' punt is downed at the Michigan State 10-yard-line.

Cole Hahn squibs the kickoff. Javon Leake returns it 14 yards to the Maryland 32.

Kenny Willekes brings down Kasim Hill behind the line for a 6-yard sack. Hill take a shot down the left sideline on second down, but his pass falls out-of-bounds. A 4-yard pass on third down to Avery Edwards won't be enough to move the chains, and Wade Lees will be back out to punt for Maryland.

The punt is downed at the 20.

Heyward pounds rock en route to Spartan touchdown

Connor Heyward runs for a gain of 4 on first down. Darrell Stewart Jr. catches a pass while heading toward the sideline that picks up 10 yards and a fresh set of downs at the 44.

Matt Dotson hauls in a pass over his head for a gain of 8 on first down. Heyward bolts up the middle and falls forward for a gain of 10 on second down to make it first-and-10 at the Maryland 38.

Lewerke throws behind Brandon Sowards on the next play, but the pass is complete for a gain of 12. 

Lewerke hands it off to Heyward and he picks up 4 yards on first down. Lewerke gets it to Stewart with a short pass on second down that'll be good for 5 yards to make it third-and-1 at the Maryland 17.  Lewerke sneaks it up the middle for a first down.

Heyward finds nothing up the middle, bounces to the outside, and turns the broken play into a 7-yard gain on first down. Heyward gets 3 more on second down to make it first-and-goal at the 6.

Heyward pounds the rock up the middle on first down, fumbles into the end zone, and the ball is recovered by fullback Max Rosenthal for a Michigan State touchdown.

Brandon Sowards fumbles the punt, but's able to run back and recover it. Michigan State will take over at the 30.

Connor Heyward puts together a nice return to start the second half, making it to midfield. 

La'Darius Jefferson gets 7 yards on a first-down run and picks up 2 yards on second down. Brian Lewerke sneaks it up the middle on third down to pick up 2 yards and move the chains.

Jefferson has no room to run on first down and is stopped at the 39 for no gain. Lewerke makes a dangerous throw on second down and is nearly picked off at the sideline. Lewerke straight up misses Cody White on third down and Michigan State will punt.

Bryce Baringer's punt is fair caught at the 12.

Lewerke stumbles as he drops back in the pocket and sacks himself for a loss of 9. Cam Chambers gets 11 yards with a second-down reception and Connor Heyward makes a catch out of the backfield for a pickup of 2 on third down. The Spartans will punt.

Maryland gets on board with field goal

Kasim Hill finds a lane up the middle of the field and picks up 12 yards on first down.

Hill is forced to launch the ball out-of-bounds on first down and Darryl Jones picks up 7 yards on second down to make it third-and-3. Anthony McFarland gets to the edge on third down for a gain of 8 to keep the drive alive.

Hill stumbles as he hands the ball off to Tayon Fleet-Davis, who is unable to pick up yardage. Hill is crushed by Tyriq Thompson as he lets go of a second-down incompletion. Thompson is penalized for roughing the passer, with targeting.

Injury: Hill is hurt on the play and is attended to by the training staff. 

Thompson's targeting call is waved. The roughing-the-passer call stands, however, so it'll be first-and-goal at the 8.

Tyrell Pigrome hops in at quarterback for Maryland and throws a bad pass that falls incomplete. Fleet-Davis is stopped for a gain of 2 on second down as Hill returns. Mike Panasiuk bats down Hill's pass at the line on third down.

Jefferson takes the handoff for 2 yards on first down. On second down, Cody White is spun down behind the line on a jet sweep for a loss of 4. Lewerke scrambles, makes a linebacker miss and fumbles out-of-bounds 2 yards short of the first-down marker. 

Bryce Baringer's punt is not a great one. It goes out-of-bounds at the Spartan 42.

Javon Leake picks up 1 yard with a first-down run. Kasim Hill's throw on second down falls incomplete. Taivon Jacobs makes a nice catch over the middle for a 14-yard gain that'll give Maryland a first down for the first time this game. That's also the last play of the first quarter.

Brian Lewerke turns on the jets on first down and gets up the left sideline for a gain of 22 on first down to reach the Maryland red zone.

Lewerke's pass to La'Darius Jefferson on first down goes for a gain of 2. Jefferson picks up 3 yards on the ground on second down. Lewerke scrambles and takes a chance toward the end zone on third down to Jalen Nailor that's defended nicely. 

Matt Coghlin puts a 33-yard field-goal attempt through the uprights.

Anthony McFarland hauls in a 2-yard reception on first down. He puts the ball in the carpet on second down while getting wrapped up in the backfield by Joe Bachie. Kasim Hill recovers and Maryland will keep possession. Maryland is flagged for a false start. Hill is unable to hang onto a bad snap; his fumble recovery and the sack that follows results in a 13-yard loss. Nothing going right for the Terp offense at the moment.

Michigan State takes first-quarter lead

Connor Heyward takes it up the middle for 9 yards on first down and gains 3 yards on second down to move the chains.

Brian Lewerke fakes to Heyward on play-action, leaving the right side of the field wide open for the Spartan quarterback to pick up 9 yards with his feet before popping out-of-bounds. Heyward picks up another first down with a 4-yard run. It'll be first-and-10 at the 46.

Lewerke runs for about a yard on first down. Lewerke misses Cody White over the middle on second down. White makes a spectacular effort to fight off pass interference and haul in a 24-yard reception to move the Spartans into Maryland territory at the 29.

Lewerke throws a 6-yard pass to Jalen Nailor on first down. Heyward is stuffed on the left side for no gain on second down. Michigan State goes to the option on third down. Lewerke pitches to Heyward, who gains a total of 3 yards. Michigan State lines up to go for it on fourth.

Lewerke gets enough push on the quarterback sneak to pick up a first down at the Maryland 18.

Connor Heyward hits the hole with a first-down run and takes it all the way to the house. 

"Go Green! Go White!" flood the stadium, because there's about 13 Maryland fans in attendance.

Maryland offense sputters on opening drive

Maryland has won the toss and elects to receive. The opening kick is taken for a touchback. 

Kasim Hill's throw on first down falls incomplete. Marcus Lewis picks up 8 yards with a second-down run. Raequan Williams bats down Hill's throw on third down to force a punt.

Injury: Andrew Dowell was injured on the play.

Wade Lees' punt is downed at the Michigan State 21.

Scott back on the sidelines

Michigan State is without senior running back LJ Scott for its matchup with Maryland on Saturday.

Scott missed four games this season with an ankle injury but has played in Michigan State's last two games. He did not make the trip to College Park, however.

Michigan State officials confirmed Scott's absence was injury related.
