Chicago — Last summer, Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio passed on an offer from HBO to do a weekly show from preseason camp, much like the network has done successfully in the NFL with “Hard Knocks.”

This year, however, fans will get their chance to go behind the scenes as the Big Ten Network announced “Green and White Days: Inside Michigan State Training Camp” would premiere Aug. 18.

The weekly show started last season as “Scarlet and Gray Days,” and followed Ohio State through preseason camp. Dantonio was impressed with how it looked, helping him decide this was the right year for Michigan State to take part.

“Last year we weren’t coming off a championship,” Dantonio said. “This year we’re coming off a championship and I felt like this was the time to do it from an exposure standpoint and feel like our players have earned this opportunity and we’ll see where it takes us.

“I watched how it was done last year at Ohio State and I was very impressed with the quality and the work that they did and thought this would benefit our program.”

The show will follow the Spartans as they prepare for the season opener against Furman on Sept. 2.

Michigan State has won 11 or more games in five of the last six seasons and has won the Big Ten championship game in two of the last three. The Spartans will be looking to get back to the College Football Playoff after reaching the semifinals in 2015.
