MSU safety Cox charged with misdemeanor assault

East Lansing – Michigan State safety Demetrious Cox was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault and in the early morning hours Thursday in East Lansing, according to 54B District Court documents.

The fifth-year senior did not make the trip with the football team for its final game of the season at Penn State on Saturday, and following the game coach Mark Dantonio said it was for a violation of team rules.

Cox, a native of Jeannette, Pa., was arrested at 3 a.m. and told the Lansing State Journal he was falsely accused and arrested because he fit a description of a suspect.

Records indicate arraignment is set for Dec. 5.

Cox had 55 tackles this season and had an interception return for a touchdown.
