Ann Arbor — The hardship waiver for running back Ty Isaac, a transfer from Southern California, has been denied, Michigan coach Brady Hoke said Wednesday.
Michigan filed an appeal last week.
Isaac was a five-star recruit out of high school who transferred to Michigan to be closer to his ailing mother in Illinois, who is recovering from surgery.
Isaac’s family situation led Michigan to apply for the hardship waiver, which would allow Isaac to play this fall.
Hoke said it’s unclear how long it will take go receive a response from the NCAA. If the appeal is denied, the 6-foot-3, 225-pound Isaac will sit out this season per NCAA transfer rules and have three years of eligibility remaining.
