UM Regents will discuss Dave Brandon at meeting

The Detroit News

The University of Michigan Board of Regents will discuss athletic director Dave Brandon at the Regents' monthly meeting this week.

UM Regent Denise Ilitch said on the "Michigan Matters" show on WWJ-TV in Detroit that the athletic department's handling of the Shane Morris concussion case will be discussed.

"The system failed that day, and there are a lot of issues that we need to review now," Ilitch said. She said earlier she had received "hundreds of letters" about the Morris incident and its aftermath.

This month's Regents meeting is Thursday on the UM Flint campus; the meeting begins at 3 p.m.

In UM's home game against Minnesota on Sept. 27, Morris, a quarterback, was staggered by a hard helmet-to-helmet hit. He remained in the game for one play after the hit, then was later reinserted into the game for one more play.

He was later diagnosed with a mild concussion.

Brandon, UM coaches and UM medical personnel were heavily criticized for how they handled the incident.
