UM to redshirt Morgan; Peppers 'battling some things'

Ann Arbor -- Michigan linebacker Desmond Morgan, who has not played since the season opener, will be redshirted and will return next season as a fifth-year senior, coach Brady Hoke said Monday.

Freshman defensive back Jabrill Peppers is not on the depth chart, but whether he will play this season remains unclear. He has been seen this season on the sideline walking with a limp.

Hoke said Morgan has a "hand" injury. Morgan earlier in the season was on the sideline with a cast on his right arm.

Hoke was evasive about Peppers, the No. 1 recruit in Michigan's 2014 class. Hoke did say he was not ruling out a return for Peppers this season.

"He's still battling some things and we'll see where it ends up," Hoke said. "If he's out, I would have lumped in with Desmond. He won't travel this week (won't dress for the game)."

Michigan fifth-year senior Devin Gardner will be the starting quarterback against Indiana.
