UM's Derrick Walton Jr. on watch list for Cousy Award

The Detroit News

Michigan sophomore Derrick Walton Jr. has been named to the preseason watch list for the Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award.

There are two other Big Ten players on the watch list -- Indiana's Yogi Ferrell and Maryland's Romelo Trimble.

Trey Burke, currently with the Utah Jazz, was the 2013 winner, becoming the first Wolverine to claim the honor.

Walton, from Detroit, averaged 7.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists for the Wolverines last season. He was named the All-Big Ten Freshman Team.

The watch list will be narrowed to 20 candidates in early February, then to five by early March.
