UM alum Brad Bates plans to stay as Boston College AD

Brad Bates, a former Michigan football player currently the Boston College athletic director, told his hometown newspaper he plans to be at BC for a "long time".

Since the resignation of former Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon, Bates has been speculated as a possible candidate for the job at Michigan.

Bates told the Port Huron Times Herald that the speculation is not a distraction.

"It really doesn't distract me at all," Bates said. "I love it here at Boston College, my values align with the institutional mission, and we've really enjoyed living in New England, one of the greatest cities in the world. It hasn't been a distraction at all."

He did not answer directly when asked if Michigan has contacted him or other candidates.

"There is no value of me commenting on other institutions and their processes," Bates told the paper. "I love it here at Boston College, my values align with the institution and I hope to be here a long time."

Bates said that as a Michigan alum, he follows the program and university.

"You're proud of the institution and value the education the students are receiving there," he said.
