Jim Harbaugh to start at $5M annually with Michigan

Ann Arbor -- Jim Harbaugh signed a seven-year contract to become Michigan's next football coach with a starting annual salary of $5 million and a $2 million signing bonus.

He will earn raises of 10 percent after year three and year five of the contract. He is also eligible for possible deferred compensation.


Big Ten championship game appearance: $125,000

Big Ten championship game win: $250,000

Bowl game appearance (non-playoff, selected by College Football Playoff committee): $200,000

College Football Playoff game appearance: $300,000

National championship game win: $500,000

Big Ten Coach of the Year (coaches' vote): $50,000

National Coach of the year (AP, Bryant, Sporting News, Walter Camp, Maxwell or ABC/ESPN award): $75,000

Academic Progress Rate of 960 or higher (annual and four-year average): up to $150,000
