Red Berenson will return for his 32nd season as Michigan hockey coach in 2015-16, he said Tuesday.

Berenson, 75, led the Wolverines to a 22-15-0 record this season, which ended with a 4-2 loss to Minnesota in the Big Ten tournament championshp game Saturday at Joe Louis Arena.

After a record 22 consecutive seasons in the NCAA tournament, Michigan has not qualified for the past three seasons.

"There's lots of room for improvement," Berenson said Tuesday. "I think we can do a better job with this team. Our body of work wasn't good enough."

Berenson, a former Michigan and NHL star player, took over the UM program in 1984. His record with the Wolverines is 810-399-84, with national championships in 1996 and 1998.
