UM's Woodson a first-teamer on FWAA 75th anniversary team

The Detroit News
Charles Woodson

Michigan cornerback Charles Woodson, who won the Heisman Trophy and led the Wolverines to the national championship in 1997, has been named to the Football Writers Association of America 75th Anniversary All-America Team

The FWAA 75th Anniversary All-America Team celebrates the association's All-America teams from near the end of World War II through the 2014 season.

Two other Wolverines were given third-team honors -- wide receiver Anthony Carter and defensive back Dave Brown. Michigan State defensive end Bubba Smith also was named to the third team.

Woodson started 34 consecutive games for the Wolverines from 1995-97 before being drafted No. 4 overall by the Raiders. In 1997 he won the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given to the nation's top defensive back. He also won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Chuck Bednarik Award as most outstanding defensive player in the nation.

He finished his three-year Michigan career with 162 tackles and 18 interceptions.
