Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh credited former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr for helping motivate the Wolverines as they prepared for their home opener.

Carr spoke to the team after last Thursday’s practice. Michigan (1-1) defeated Oregon State 35-7 on Saturday before 109,651 at Michigan Stadium.

“We had really good practices during the week, Thursday might have been our best practice,” Harbaugh said Sunday on the “Inside Michigan Football” show.

“Lloyd Carr talked to the team after practice and that’s what he talked about — playing inspired football. (He told them) ‘You’re going to have a fan base that’s going to be very inspired Saturday, and you want to play inspired, so they stay inspired.’ And it really resonated with me, and I know it did with our players. I thought that was another key factor to our victory.”
