Michigan’s Citrus Bowl victory over Florida drew a 5.4 overnight rating on ABC last Friday, ranking third on New Year’s Day among the five college football games broadcast that day, according a report Monday on Sports Media Watch.

The Michigan-Florida Citrus Bowl drew a 5.4 rating, which ranked third behind the Rose Bowl and Fiesta Bowl in terms of New Year's Day college football viewership.

The Stanford-Iowa Rose Bowl drew a 7.9 and the Ohio State-Notre Dame Fiesta Bowl, which was played at the same time as the Citrus Bowl, a 6.2 on ESPN.

Michigan played Florida the last time the Wolverines were in the Citrus Bowl. That was Lloyd Carr’s final game as Michigan head coach after 13 seasons and Florida was coached by Urban Meyer and featured Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow. That 2008 Citrus Bowl drew a 9.9 rating in metered markets.
