Management at Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Ann Arbor probably were looking for ways to boost their business and get a little more traffic in the upscale restaurant, making a connection to Michigan football.

With their recent ad, posted to the restaurant’s Facebook page on Friday, they may have gotten more than they bargained for initially.

The “Score Big” promotion promised a percentage off the total food bill equal to Michigan’s margin of victory over any of its opponents for the remainder of the season.

The deal got really good for Michigan fans, with the Wolverines’ 78-0 win at Rutgers on Saturday night.

So that means 78 percent off premium steaks, right?

Not so fast.

In the fine print and conditions, the restaurant posted that the cap on the deal was 50 percent.

That’s still an outstanding deal — just not 78-percent good.

“Our apologies the discount cap at 50% was not clear in this initial post,” the management posted to the Facebook comments. “This amazing promotion was launched with a cap of ‘up to 50% off’ the food portion of the bill and we've updated this post to reflect that."

Other commenters were disappointed and confused at the reduction.

“Very weak on the 50% qualifier. You made an offer, keep your word,” commenter Eric Budin wrote. “Try to make it a positive by asking customers to make a donation to a worthy charity (the Rutgers athletics dept doesn't count) with some of the savings.”

Ruth’s Chris Ann Arbor is located at 314 S. 4th Ave and more information is available on its Facebook page.
