The Michigan-Florida State Orange Bowl game Friday night drew a 6.7 overnight on ESPN, the best overnight for the first game of the New Year’s Six, surpassing the Peach Bowl in 2014 by 103% and in 2015 by 68%.
Birmingham, Ala., had the largest ratings with 18.8, while the Detroit market was second at 18.5, and Columbus was third at 16.1.
The game peaked at a 7.5 overnight during the final quarter hour (11:45 p.m. to midnight)
According to ESPN, Last night’s overnight rating is the highest for a bowl game on any network — broadcast or cable — that has aired on or before Dec. 30 of that bowl season, besting more than 600 bowl games.
