UM football names Magee director of player personnel

Sean Magee is Michigan’s new director of player personnel after spending the last five seasons in that role with the U.S. Naval Academy.

“Sean brings a strong recruiting history and an experienced personnel background to the University of Michigan,” Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said in a release. “We are excited to have his military experience, leadership skills and organizational talents help make our program great.

“Throughout the interview process, I felt that Sean answered my questions about how to improve our program before I could even ask them.”

Magee was a offensive lineman at the Naval Academy. He was a member of an offense that led the nation in rushing during the 2003 season.

“I am unbelievably excited to join the University of Michigan family,” Magee said. “The opportunity to work with such a phenomenal staff, led by Coach Harbaugh, at one of the world’s premier institutions, is certainly a responsibility that I do not take lightly. I look forward to doing everything I can to help Michigan football shape a national championship roster.”

Magee graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2004 with a bachelor of science degree in economics. He later earned a master’s degree in business administration from the College of William & Mary’s Mason School of Business.

After graduation, Magee was commissioned as a surface warfare officer, reporting to USS Juneau in Sasebo, Japan, where he deployed to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Following that tour of duty, Magee served as a manpower/personnel analyst on the Commander, Naval Surface Forces staff in Coronado, California.

Michigan reportedly also has hired Scott Turner as an offensive analyst. Albert Breer of reported the hire Monday. Turner has six years of NFL experience including the last three seasons as the Vikings quarterbacks coach.
