‘D’ owner wins $1M if Michigan wins national title
The D has a whole lot riding on the Block M.
Derek Stevens, the Las Vegas casino magnate and Detroit native, plopped down $12,500 before the NCAA Tournament on Michigan to win the whole darn thing — and he’s four wins away from a massive payday, even by Sin City standards.
According to his ticket posted on Twitter, if Michigan wins the national championship, Stevens will net a cool $1 million.
The owner of The D Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, as well as the Golden Gate Hotel and Casino, both in downtown Vegas, Stevens placed the wager at the Golden Nugget.
Golden Nugget CEO Tilman Fertitta doesn’t appear to be sweating, tweeting at Stevens on Sunday afternoon, “Should be fun my friend!”
Stevens also made headlines before the NCAA Tournament by placing an $11,000 wager on each of the 32 first-round games, against the spread. He won both his bets on his home-state teams, picking Michigan and Michigan State to win their openers.
No. 7 seed Michigan stunned No. 2 seed Louisville, 73-69, to reach the Sweet 16.
No. 9 Michigan State was playing No. 1 Kansas on Sunday night.
