UM prepping for Air Force’s triple-option while in Rome

Rome — Michigan defensive coordinator Don Brown said before leaving for Rome that he planned to spend time preparing for Air Force.

“You’ve got to work on (the triple-option). It’s different,” said Don Brown, defensive coordinator.

The Wolverines play Air Force and its triple-option on Sept. 16 in Michigan Stadium. But defending that offense is a challenge and Brown did not want to waste time.

Brown had the defense working on it Friday during practice here and said he has spent the last four practices, with the exception of the scrimmage, getting the players ready for that offense.

“You saw it today,” Brown said. “You’ve got to work on it. It’s different.

“We’ve got all the initial pieces in, so when we come back to preseason camp after we made our initial installs for the first game, then we’ll spend some time on in and then we’ll have to put it to bed to get ready for Florida (in the season opener).”

Defensive lineman Chase Winovich said they feel confident with the defensive game plan for the Falcons.

“I think by the time we actually get to Air Force, the defensive line is going to be able to run their offense better than they do,” Winovich said after practice Friday. “We’re going to be prepared for them. We’re going to be prepared for anybody we play.”
