James Ross joins Michigan staff as defensive assistant
Former Michigan linebacker James Ross III is now a defensive assistant on Jim Harbaugh's staff.
Ross, who played at Orchard Lake St. Mary's before playing for the Wolverines beginning in 2012 when he made the Big Ten's All-Freshman team, made the announcement Monday on Twitter.
"Thankful and excited for the opportunity to join The University of Michigan football program to begin my coaching career. #ThoseWhoStayWillBeChampions #GoBlue"
Harbaugh has added several former Michigan players to his staff in support roles, including former receiver Roy Roundtree, former linebacker Allen Gant, and Patrick Kugler, who started at center last season and is now a graduate assistant.
Ross was Detroit Loyola's defensive coordinator last season.
His younger brother, linebacker Josh Ross, played in 13 games for Michigan last season as a freshman.
