Michigan has canceled its spring football game Saturday at Michigan because of a severe weather threat.
The forecast projects considerable rain and thunderstorms which is why on Wednesday Michigan decided to cancel. Wisconsin also canceled its Friday night spring game for similar concerns.
“We want to ensure the safety of our fans as well as the student-athletes and staff,” Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel said in a release Wednesday. “We also wanted to provide as much notice in advance for fans and the families of our players that were considering attending.”
The game will not be rescheduled because of the limited number of spring practices remaining — Michigan will have practices April 16, 18, 21, 24 — and finals begin soon
“It's in the best interests of everybody, the fans, players, staff that will be working the game," Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh said on the Big Ten conference call Wednesday. "It was the best and right thing to do."
