Game summary

Michigan bounced back from its embarrassment in Madison a week ago by taking care of business at home against Rutgers on Saturday afternoon.

The Wolverines accounted for 476 yards of offense, went 6-for-6 in the red zone and averaged 7 yards per play en route to a 52-0 win.

Rutgers offense runs out backups

Hunter Hayek fields a bouncing kick at the 1. He returns it to the 2. Not ideal.

Kay'Ron Adams gives the Scarlet Knights some breathing room with a 6-yard carry. Adams is stopped for no gain on second down. Artur Sitkowski completes a 7-yard pass to Paul Woods to keep the drive alive.

Adams spins out of a tackle at the line of scrimmage and gets to the 20 on a 5-yard carry.

Joe Milton is in at quarterback for Michigan.

Hassan Haskins hits a hole up the middle and goes down at the Rutgers 28 for an 11-yard gain. 

Haskins gets 11 more yards on the next play.

Haskins gets the carry again when we return from the break, springing free up the middle for a 15-yard gain that'll make it first-and-goal from the 2. 

Haskins rushes for a yard on first down. He's stopped short of the goal line again on second down. Milton is stuffed on third down. He rolls out on play-action and scampers into the end zone on fourth-and-goal from the 1.

Lavert Hill makes a great play to swat Artur Sitkowski's first-down throw. Raheem Blackshear is wrapped up for a gain of 1 yard on second down. Sitkowski is pressured and throws it away on third down.

Rutgers commits two false start penalties. Now fourth-and-19, it'll punt from the 16.

Donovan Peoples-Jones returns the punt to Michigan's 49.

Patterson's third rushing touchdown of day puts Michigan up 38-0 

Donovan Peoples-Jones catches a 17-yard pass on first down, putting Michigan at the 23. 

Shea Patterson goes to Peoples-Jones again on the next play, but this one can't be hauled in despite Peoples-Jones' diving effort. Christian Turner is wrapped up for no gain on second down.

Ronnie Bell catches a pass over the middle and sheds some tacklers while carrying several others before going down just short of the goal line. 

Patterson puts Michigan up big with his third rushing touchdown of the game.

Rutgers can't capitalize on turnover, turns ball over on downs

Isaih Pacheco gets to the 5 with a 1-yard carry on first down. Artur Sitkowski is pressured but fires complete to Raheem Blackshear for a 3-yard gain. Sitkowski finds Blackshear with some room to run on third down for a 17-yard gain that'll keep the drive alive.

Blackshear is spun down for a gain of 3 on first down. Sitkowski throws off his back foot to Isaiah Washington, who makes a great catch that's only good for a gain of 2. Cam McGrone is flagged for pass interference on a third-down incompletion, giving Rutgers a first down at the 32.

Sitkowski then completes a strike to Pacheco for a pickup of 7. Pacheco rushes for 2 yards on second down and is stopped for no gain on third down. Rutgers lines up to go for it from its own 41.

Patterson has a lot of time to throw on the next play and is able to find a wide-open Nick Eubanks over the middle for a 26-yard pickup that'll move the Wolverines to Rutgers' 49-yard-line.

Patterson again goes to Bell, this time connecting for an 11-yard pitch and catch.

Christian Turner plows forward for gains of 3 on first and second down. Patterson underthrows to Collins on third-and-4, and his pass is picked off by Damon Hayes at the Rutgers 4.

Shameen Jones gets his first carry of the game, picking up 4 yards on first down. An illegal formation penalty on the next play makes it second-and-11. Artur Sitkowski's second-down throw to Bo Melton is rushed and falls incomplete.

Patterson stands in and fires to Donovan Peoples-Jones for a 28-yard pickup over the middle that's negated for an ineligible man downfield. Nick Eubanks catches a pass that's good for 14 yards on the re-played first down. Tru Wilson moves the sticks with a gain of 3 to the right-side edge.

Patterson's throw on first down is caught by Black for an 8-yard gain. Wilson runs for 1 yard, bringing up third-and-1. Hassan Haskins pushes the line forward for a 5-yard pickup. It'll be first-and-goal at the 5.

Haskins is stopped for a gain of 1 on first down. Patterson goes play-action, keeps, and scrambles into the end zone for his second rushing touchdown of the half.

Raheem Blackshear is dropped by Kwity Paye for a loss of 1 on first down. Bo Melton makes Rutgers' biggest play of the day thus far, pulling down a pass from Artur Sitkowski for a gain of 15. 

Paul Woods gets the Scarlet Knights to the Rutgers 45 with a 6-yard reception on the next play. Blackshear gets 3 on the ground on second down. Blackshear gets open on third down, catches a pass, puts Jordan Glasgow's feet in a blender and gets out to the Michigan 35 for a gain of 17.

Paul Woods catches a pass for 7 yards on first down. Isaih Pacheco rushes for a gain of 6 on the next play, moving the chains again.

Lavert Hill is called for defensive holding on first down, making it first-and-10 from the 12.

Patterson's first rushing touchdown of season gives Michigan 14-0 lead

Shea Patterson has all day to throw on first down. He eventually hits Ronnie Bell on a crossing route for a 17-yard gain that's good for a first down at the Rutgers 44.

Zach Charbonnet rushes for a gain of 8 on first down. An illegal formation penalty makes it second-and-7. Charbonnet then gets 4 yards on a sweep. Michael Onwenu takes a false-start penalty, making it third-and-8. Then Rutgers takes a holding penalty on the next play, bailing out Michigan and giving them a first down at the 32.

Rutgers takes another holding penalty on the next play. That's its third of the game. Michigan has a new set of downs at the 22.

Christian Turner is stopped for a gain of only 1 on first down. Patterson is flushed from the pocket on the next play, scrambles, heads out of bounds and loses 2 yards in the process. Donovan Peoples-Jones pulls in a perfect throw from Patterson down the left sideline for a 21-yard gain. It's first-and-goal at the 3.

Hassan Haskins is stopped for no gain on first down and gains a yard, if anything, on second down. Play-action springs Patterson free on the bootleg and he scampers into the end zone.

Collins' 48-yard touchdown reception gives Michigan 7-0 lead

Rutgers wins the toss and will defer.

Giles Jackson returns the kickoff to Michigan's 20. Zach Charbonnet runs for a gain of 6 on first down. Ronnie Bell catches a strike from Patterson that's good for 14 yards on the next play, making it first-and-10 at the 40.

Christian Turner is drilled after a gain of only 2 on first down. Turner splits a hole on the next play and is tripped up for a 10-yard gain.

Michigan has it at the Rutgers 48. Patterson throws to Nico Collins on an out-route, Collins cuts up the sideline and the Wolverines have an early lead.
