Rick Leach or Jim Harbaugh?

The former Michigan quarterbacks will slug it out for charity during the first Home Run Derby to be held at the conclusion of the seventh Michigan Softball Academy on May 5. The Home Run Derby is open to the public but the social event associated with the academy requires a ticket.

Fans can vote and make a donation for either Leach or Harbaugh online at makingstrides.acsevents.org. The goal is to raise $10,000 for the American Cancer Society and breast cancer research, and the coach who earns the most votes will bat second.

Leach and Harbaugh will face live softball pitching. Harbaugh has said several times he grew up wanting to play Major League Baseball, but Leach was a 1979 Tigers draft pick and was in the majors from 1981-1990.

Michigan softball coach Carol Hutchins and her program host the academy that begins at 5 p.m. on May 5 on Alumni Field and already has 289 participants and raised more than $65,000 for the American Cancer Society.
