What do they say about imitation being the sincerest form of flattery?
Sincere probably isn’t what Rutgers was going for, based on a Friday tweet by Aaron Bills, director of football creative at Michigan. Bills creates and provides the designs for different types of items used in recruiting.
Bills shared side-by-side photos of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh holding a Happy Birthday card used as a mailing to recruits and of Rutgers coach Chris Ash doing the same.
Bills posted on Twitter: “Execute idea>Get Copied>Don’t Complain>Come up with Better Idea>Repeat Cycle … It’s the Michigan Way. #CatchUp”
Rutgers seems to be at odds with Michigan these days. Michigan will participate in a satellite camp June 8 in Paramus, N.J., from which the Wolverines have landed top players Jabrill Peppers and Rashan Gary, the No. 1-ranked recruit last season. And now Rutgers is holding a camp in-state the same day at Farleigh Dickinson and will include Ohio State coach Urban Meyer among the coaches working.
Ash has called the camp “the best camp on the East Coast.”
One day after the camp, on June 9, Harbaugh will speak at the Paramus Catholic High commencement – and news of that ruffled Ash’s feathers.
"Do I like it? No, I don't,” Ash told NJ.com. “I don't want another coach from another program to be able to come to our state and be able to basically present their logo and their team and their program in our state.”
