James Hudson, a three-star defensive end from Toledo Catholic Central, on Monday committed to Michigan’s 2017 recruiting class.

Hudson (6-5, 280 pounds) is ranked the No. 1 defensive end in Ohio and No. 32 at his position nationally by Scout.com for 2017.

Hudson chose the Wolverines over his other finalists -- Michigan State, Tennessee, Penn State and Kentucky -- though in the late stages of his recruitment it was considered a two-team race between the Wolverines and Spartans.

Hudson had been previously committed to Kentucky.

Though rated as a defensive end by Scout.com, it’s possible Hudson could play defensive tackle or offensive line in college.

Hudson, who visited Michigan over the weekend for the BBQ at the Big House, is the 19th commitment in Michigan's 2017 recruiting class.
