Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh relishes college football traditions, and he was downright giddy about the prospects of seeing Florida State’s famous horse mascot, Renegade, during the Orange Bowl.

Michigan will face Florida State in the Orange Bowl on Dec. 30 in Miami, and Harbaugh and FSU coach Jimbo Fisher shared the news conference stage Wednesday in Florida.

Harbaugh was complimentary of the Seminoles, sparking the most lively portion of the news conference.

“It’s one of those great programs, one of those great traditions,” Harbaugh said. “Renegade, the war horse, the spear, Tomahawk chant. I’ve never been to a game at Florida State. I always wanted to. I always wanted to go their stadium and see what that atmosphere was like in person.

“This will be as close as I’ve ever been to that. I’m very much excited about that and looking forward to that. I’m going to get some chills, I know, when Appaloosa (which is the type of horse Renegade is) comes riding out there. Do they do it at the bowl game?”

Fisher: “I don’t know. I guess they will. I don’t know if they can. Probably will, I guess. If the bowl game allows it.”

Harbaugh: “Well, you have our permission. I want to see that. That’s one of the coolest things. A lot of teams got cool things …”

Fisher: “It is one of the neat traditions, you’re right.”

Harbaugh: “We’ve got cool things and other teams have got cool things, (but) that is right up there with one of the coolest things.”

Fisher: “You’re right.”
