Postcard from Italy: Shower reins in this American

I will miss Rome, but I will not miss this shower, basically the size of a phone booth. People pick on us Americans for our big portions and our big voices and our big spaces, but we also have big showers. That is a luxury to which we are accustomed. This shower had sliding doors and one day I forgot the soap — all I had to do was slide open one side and the sink was right there with the soap. It had barely enough room in which to move. And now that I’ve eaten so much gelato … please get me my big American shower!

Compact shower stalls are common in Europe.
