Ann Arbor — Michigan defensive coordinator Don Brown is hopeful cornerback Lavert Hill and safety Josh Metellus are available to play Saturday against Indiana, but it’s still too soon to tell.

Hill left the Rutgers game before halftime last week, and has been in concussion protocol. Metellus, who suffered what coach Jim Harbaugh called a “soft tissue” injury last week, tried to play against Rutgers but didn’t feel he could.

“I’m not a doctor, so I can’t make that ... but we’ve got a heck of shot to have them,” Brown said Wednesday before practice.

“We’ll see. Both of them are day-to-day and yesterday was Tuesday, today is Wednesday. Obviously, we’ll have a better idea after today, because Tuesday and Wednesday are the two heavy work days. You’ve got to get some work in on Wednesday for sure, but you still have Thursday and Friday and at this time of year, except for learning the innuendos of the game plan, you’re not fooling anybody right now.”

Hill has not yet practiced this week.
