Brighton man has eight aces, will take swing at News contest

Glenn Ikens of Brighton plans on being one of the dozens of golfers participating in The Detroit News / Golf Association of Michigan Hole in One Contest Monday at Whispering Willows Golf Course in Livonia.
Ikens, 76, plays five or six days a week, many times on his home course of Rush Lake Hills in Pinckney. He has eight aces during his life, six coming in the last five years. His last ace was on Rush Lake Hills' No. 13 hole, hitting from 130 yards away with an 8-iron on July 6.
"Ever since I retired 20 years ago I play six months a year at Myrtle Beach," said Ikens. "I play six days a week, and the only reason I don't play seven is I can't find someone to play with on Sundays.
"I play almost every day when I'm home too, a lot at Rush Lake Hills."
Ikens, who worked in the hardwood floor business, said his handicap is 6.
Now he's looking forward to taking a swing for an ace at Whispering Willows.
