Orchard Lake St. Mary’s vs. Southfield at Wayne State, Friday, 4 p.m.:Oakland County has six of the top 14 teams in the state and here are two of them going head-to-head. You want talent … more than a handful of D-1 athletes will be on the field in this one.
Detroit Catholic Central at Muskegon, Friday:Wow, what an opener! Catholic Central has appeared in the last three Division 1 state championship games, and Muskegon has made title appearances the last two years in Division 2.
Oak Park vs. Detroit Cass Tech at Wayne State, Friday:It doesn’t get any better than this, No. 2 Cass Tech going up against No. 5 Oak Park with junior quarterback Rodney Hall facing Oak Park’s defense, led by tackle Shahid Bellamy (6-foot-3, 280) and linebacker Junior McMullen (6-2, 220).
Lansing Sexton vs. Detroit East English Village Prep at Wayne State, Saturday, Aug. 30, 11 a.m.:It should be interesting to see how Sexton’s powerful offense of running back Avonte Bell and quarterback Malik Mack fare against East English’s tough defensive front led by Emani Mason (6-4, 270) and end Kamahl March.
Lowell at East Grand Rapids, Sept. 12:This is the place to be if this OK White game repeats last year’s thriller. Lowell came out on top in a four-overtime battle, 42-39.
Detroit East English at Detroit King, Saturday, Oct. 4, noon:These two City League teams battled it out in the state playoffs last year with King coming out on top, 28-20. Each team has quality quarterbacks, WMU-bound Anton Curtis for East English and Mikale Washington for King.
Plymouth at Canton, Friday, Oct. 10:Plymouth crosses its backyard to play at rival Canton, where these teams have traded victories in past years. Canton won 34-23 last season, avenging a 40-28 playoff loss in 2012 when Plymouth scored 20 fourth-quarter points.
Oak Park at Southfield, Friday, Oct. 17:Expect this one to be for first place in the OAA White. It has turned into a good rivalry with Oak Park defeating Southfield, 24-18, in overtime in 2012 and Southfield coming out on top last year, 20-12.
Muskegon Mona Shores at Muskegon, Oct. 24:Mona Shores standout quarterback Tyree Jackson has just one more chance to beat his big brother in Muskegon. The teams were even at 20 last year late in the fourth quarter when Muskegon pulled out a 26-20 win before 10,000 fans.
