Max Whipple scored four goals as host Birmingham Roeper blew past Southfield Christian, 6-1, Monday in a Division 4 boys soccer district quarterfinal.

Roeper (16-1) will host West Bloomfield Frankel Jewish Academy in a district semifinal 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Whipple, a senior forward, wasted little time putting Roeper on the board, blasting a shot from outside the 18-yard box for quick 1-0 lead three minutes into the first half.

At the 7:20 mark, Whipple struck again on a breakaway off a through ball by Andy Reed for a 2-0 advantage. Less than 30 seconds later, Whipple recorded the hat trick after scoring off a volley by Simon Roennecke.

Reed added a goal in the 22nd minute from 22 yards out off another Roennecke pass to pad Roeper's lead, 4-0.

After a Southfield Christian goal cut it to 4-1 in the 24th minute, Whipple responded with his fourth goal in the 25th minute off a cross.

Roennecke provided the final scoring margin after receiving a pass from Whipple and beating two defenders for a goal around the 12-yard line.

Whipple finished with five points (four goals, one assist), Roennecke with four (three assists, one goal) and Reed two (one goal, one assist).
