Dearborn — Senior Muhammed Zahr led the Dearborn Fordson boys basketball team to a 63-46 victory over visiting Dearborn Heights Robichaud on Tuesday in a Western Wayne Athletic Conference opener.

Zahr led all scorers with 29 points, 27 coming in the first half, and hitting four 3-pointers.

"Muhammed got hot early," Fordson coach Osama Abulhassan said. "He led the way for us as he's done so far this year. That's something we expect him to do. He's got to be a facilitator and he's got to be a scorer."

Fordson (3-0, 1-0) dominated from the start, opening with a 7-0 run and never gave up the lead.

"We came ready to play," Abulhassan said. "Our offense fed off our defense early. That was the key. We're all about those fast starts and we brought the energy early."

After another 12-point run early in the second quarter, Zahr hit a layup at the buzzer to make it 39-19 at halftime.

"Holding them to 19 points in a half is really outstanding, and that's what we're about," Abulhassan said. "That's how we're going to try to win."

Fordson's largest lead came at the end of the third quarter, 52-25 heading into the final eight minutes.

Robichaud (1-2, 0-1) showed some life in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to 12 with just over two minutes to play, but it would not be enough to overcome Fordson.

"We were able to score 60-plus, but we know we're going to have to hold teams down to win," Abulhassan said.

Michael Hazime added 17 points for Fordson.

Darrin Mayo scored 15 for Robichaud.
